Have you ever felt stuck in a rut, despite achieving external success?

My career within UK Government seemed to have it all – promotions, security, and financial comfort. Yet, I felt a deep sense of discontent.

The truth is, although I loved the people I worked with and I enjoyed elements of each role, I found that the more promotions I received the more dissatisfied I became.

It wasn't until my 6th promotion at 35 that I recognised that I'd become entirely stuck. I'd travelled so far up the ladder only to realise that I'd been resting it against the wrong wall the entire time.

The question was, what could I do now?

I feared that I needed to start all over again and join the bottom of another ladder and that the 'reputation' and 'status' I'd built would all be for nothing.

I soon became stuck in this cycle - not knowing which way to turn - and feared that I'd have to accept my choices and be stuck doing this until I retired, which wouldn't be for another 32 years at this point!

It wasn't until - by chance - that I saw a LinkedIn Post, from someone I'd known 10 years earlier, advertising their new Coaching Business. They had undertaken a complete career change, which not only fascinated me - I wanted a part of it too.

I reached out and asked if they would take me on as a Client - and thus became the pivotal 'sliding-doors' moment of my career.

It helped me to:

  • Uncover my true values: I learned to align my career with what truly mattered to me.

  • Develop a powerful action plan: I gained the clarity and motivation to make a significant career shift.

  • Embrace my authentic self: I overcame years of self-doubt and finally embraced my unique identity.

This process resulted in me joining the Charity Sector as part of Macmillan Cancer Support, which has been the highlight of my career so far; supporting those impacted and living with Cancer and making a difference.

The day I joined Macmillan was also the day that I fully embraced my my upper limb difference, which is something I'd hid for the best part of 27 years, and helped to unlock another element of my potential.

Maybe some of this will resonate with you.

If that's the case, reach out to me to see how I might be able to help in future as part of my next evolution as a Coach with 'The Happiness Alchemist'.

I love guiding individuals to find their purpose, overcome challenges, and create a life filled with happiness and fulfilment.

This is also where my studies of Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology comes in. I want to be comfortable in the knowledge that I'm Coaching people ethically and based on scientific studies whilst making sure I know how each framework and exercise will help you.

Although Coaching is incredibly helpful, I recognise that it can be expensive too and I believe that everyone should have access to it. That's why I'm exploring options to offer subsidised Coaching to those who may benefit the most. Especially those from low-socio economic backgrounds and those with disabilities or living with a difference that impacts their circumstances.

See you next time,

Tony Addison
